Plan the bay itself for two days: one for Huskisson, a cruise and the White Sands Walk, one for Booderee. Stop at Kiama and Berry on the drive from Sydney, and continue to Ulladulla if you are heading south.
1 Hyams Beach
A long curve of exceptionally white, fine sand facing the calm, clear water of the bay. It is beautiful, but the tiny village has limited parking and gets very busy in summer, so come early or walk in along the White Sands Walk.
Practical: Free. Parking restrictions in summer; consider the shuttle if offered.
2 Huskisson
The main town on the bay, at the mouth of Currambene Creek, with cafés, the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum and the departure point for most cruises.
Practical: Free. Cruise departures from the wharf.
3 Booderee National Park
The southern headland of the bay is a Commonwealth national park, owned by the Wreck Bay community. It has some of the best beaches in the area, including Murrays Beach, snorkelling, walking tracks, the ruins of Cape St George Lighthouse and the Booderee Botanic Gardens.
Practical: Vehicle entry fee, usually valid for two days. Allow a full day.
4 Kiama Blowhole
At Kiama, about 1.5 hours from Sydney, the sea forces water and spray up through holes in the rocks. The main blowhole is by the lighthouse; the Little Blowhole is a short drive south and often more reliable.
Practical: Free. Best with a swell from the south-east.
5 Berry
A village in the hills behind the coast, with heritage buildings, bakeries, cafés and shops, and a favourite stop on the drive down.
Practical: Free. About 30 minutes north of Huskisson.
6 Ulladulla
A working fishing harbour south of the bay, with beaches and coastal walks nearby, and a base for exploring the southern part of the Shoalhaven.
Practical: About 1 hour south of Huskisson.
