South Coast & Snowies

Jervis Bay & South Coast travel guide

Where to stay, food, money-saving tips, safety and sample plans for Jervis Bay and the South Coast.

Areas: where to base yourself

  • Huskisson: restaurants, cruises and the most choice.
  • Vincentia: quiet beaches and holiday houses.
  • Hyams Beach: on the famous sand, with very few rooms.
  • Berry and Kiama: good for breaking the drive from Sydney.

Food and drink

Expect seafood, relaxed cafés and good bakeries, especially in Berry. The Shoalhaven also has wineries and local cheese makers.

Money-saving tips

  • Stay outside the summer holidays, when prices fall sharply.
  • Holiday parks have good-value cabins.
  • Beaches and walks are free; Booderee’s fee covers two days.

Safety and practicalities

The bay beaches are generally calm, but ocean beaches can have rips. Carry water, sunscreen and a hat. Mobile coverage is patchy in Booderee.

Sample plans

Two days

A full day in Booderee: Murrays Beach, snorkelling and the lighthouse ruins.

Three days

Add Kiama and Berry on the way, or continue south to Ulladulla.
