The Central Coast stretches north from the mouth of the Hawkesbury River, between Sydney and Newcastle. It is a region of surf beaches, coastal lakes and bushland, with the town of Gosford as its centre and a run of beach suburbs such as Terrigal, Avoca Beach and The Entrance. This is Darkinjung and Guringai Country.
Sydneysiders come here for weekends at the beach, walks in Bouddi National Park and the afternoon pelican feeding at The Entrance. It is close enough for a day trip by train or car, and an easy first stop on a drive north to the Hunter Valley or Port Stephens.
Highlights
- Terrigal and the Skillion: a lively beach town and a grassy headland with ocean views.
- Avoca and Copacabana: classic surf beaches with a laid-back village feel.
- Bouddi National Park: coastal walks between secluded beaches.
