Getting around Broken Hill

The city centre is walkable. For the Living Desert, Silverton and the plains you need a car or a tour. For Mutawintji and Menindee, check road conditions, carry water and fuel, and remember that many rental cars are not allowed on unsealed roads.

Outback driving

Distances between towns are huge. Fill up whenever you can, avoid driving at dawn and dusk because of animals, and carry plenty of water. Roads can close after rain. See the NSW transport guide for more.
